At Ocean Wilderness Inn, we specialize in private, bespoke coastal micro-weddings, family gatherings, and wellness retreats on Vancouver Island’s wild southwest coast near Sooke, BC. All events are hosted exclusively as full-property buyouts, giving you and your guests private run of our 5-acre oceanfront estate and 8 private suites (sleeping up to 20 guests).

  • Year-Round Intimate Celebrations: Capped at 20 guests total for indoor dining and fireside vows in our Historic Log Cabin.

  • Peak Summer Tented Weddings (July & August): Hosted outdoors for up to 40 guests maximum in our old-growth cedar Forest Grove overlooking the Salish Sea (tent and luxury washroom trailer rental required for non-lodging day guests).

  • Coastal Estate Amenities: Exclusive access to our cliffside cedar hot tub, private trail to Muir Creek Beach, manicured ocean-view lawns, and an automatic 26kW backup generator.

Coastal Gathering Spaces & Private Dining

From rustic rehearsal dinners to intimate wedding receptions and retreat workshops, our property offers distinct indoor gathering venues:

  • The Historic Log Cabin (420 sq. ft.): An authentic West Coast lodge featuring ocean views across the Juan de Fuca Strait, a roaring stone fireplace, and seating for up to 20 guests.

  • The Red Cedar Studio (318 sq. ft.): Finished in natural aromatic cedar with high-speed Wi-Fi and a 65″ Smart TV—perfect for bridal party preparation, group breakout sessions, or private yoga.

  • Catering Kitchen (Prep, Assembly & Service Only): Designed strictly as a prep, assembly, warming, and plating facility for professional certified caterers ($350 prep/staging fee per meal, or $500 flat fee for two catered meals daily). To comply with regional health, sanitation, and safety standards, it is not an open guest kitchen and DIY cooking is strictly prohibited. (Each guest suite is equipped with a mini-fridge, kettle, and Keurig bar for personal refreshments).

  • Signature Breakfast: Optional in-house plated hot breakfast served fireside in the Log Cabin for overnight guests at $28 per guest (menu selected in advance for the group).

  • The Old-Growth Forest Grove: A secluded woodland sanctuary nestled beneath towering cedars, perfect for open-air gatherings or a peak summer marquee tent (up to 20′ x 40′ for receptions up to 40 guests).

  • Cliffside Cedar Hot Tub: Soak among the evergreens with panoramic ocean views.

  • Private Beach Trail: Direct forested trail leading straight down to the driftwood beach at Orveas Bay (Muir Creek Beach).

  • Commercial Backup Generator: Equipped with an automatic 26kW backup generator ensuring seamless power.

Boutique Lodging | 8 Bespoke Suites (Sleeps up to 20)

Reserving the full estate grants your group all 8 private ocean and forest-view suites (standard adults-only restrictions are waived for private buyouts; children of all ages welcome).

  • Ground-Floor Suites: 4 suites situated on the main level with walk-out patios (accessed via gravel pathways and two low deck steps).

  • Upper-Level Suites: 4 suites located on the second level (accessed via an indoor flight of stairs) with private balconies overlooking the tree canopy and Salish Sea.

  • Property Accessibility Note: Please note our natural coastal terrain features gravel pathways, outdoor stairs, and terrain elevation changes. The estate is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.

Every suite features a private ensuite bathroom, bathrobes, organic local Seaflora amenities, smart TV (streaming-ready), mini-fridge, kettle and Keurig coffee machine:

  • 1 Garden-View King (converts to 2 Twin-XL beds)

  • 1 Suite with 1 King & 1 Queen

Planning a Gathering for 40+ Guests?

To protect the peaceful tranquility of our coastal forest and shoreline, gatherings on-site are strictly capped at 40 guests outdoors (and 20 guests indoors).

  • Year-Round Private Gatherings: We are open four seasons a year. Beyond intimate weddings, full-estate buyouts are popular for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s family holidays, milestone reunions, or hosting visiting out-of-town relatives together under one oceanfront roof.

  • Larger Celebrations (40+ Guests): If your event requires a higher-capacity reception footprint or extended group accommodation (40–100+ guests), please reach out to us. We work closely with some wonderful neighbouring oceanfront properties and are delighted to share recommendations for pairing estates or regional room blocks.

  • A Private Coastal Base: Couples celebrating elsewhere along the Shirley and Sooke coastline frequently reserve Ocean Wilderness as their exclusive 8-suite haven for immediate family lodging, wedding party prep, and private post-celebration brunches.
